Let’s find out who the ideal candidate is for treatment with Boey, the brand new neurotoxin to the market. Again, Boey is a rapid onset, short duration version of Botox and Botox-like products, meaning it kicks in within 8 hours and it only lasts for about three weeks.

Who would want that versus the longer lasting and longer onset profile of Botox? While there are many potential scenarios, many patients have been on the fence about using Botox, but they’ve been scared to commit to the full four month duration that Botox gives them. Maybe they’re not sure whether they’re going to like it. They’re scared they’re not going to look natural. Now there’s an option that allows you to test drive the results without committing to a four month term.

Other patients might just want a temporary softening of their lines for a big event: a wedding, a graduation, a big holiday party. Boey now gives you that option. It allows you to soften your lines, and within a month that effect is gone. You go back to the way you were before injection.

There are also patients who find that they start to get a little bit of movement back in one part of their Botox treatment area before the others. For example, their forehead Botox doesn’t last as long as their frown Botox. In this situation, you can come in mid cycle and top up that area with a little bit of Boey. Then in about a month, when the rest of the Botox wears off, you haven’t thrown off the rotation, so you can still stick to your original treatment plan and your original Botox mapping.

The Short Version

Is Boey right for you?

Quick answer: Boey® suits people who want softer frown lines without a months-long commitment. That includes first-timers who want to test drive a neurotoxin before trying Botox®, and anyone who wants a temporary result for a wedding, graduation or holiday party. It can start working in as little as 8 hours and fades in about 2 to 3 weeks.

Boey® (trenibotulinumtoxinE) relaxes frown muscles the same way Botox® does. The difference is the clock: Botox typically lasts three to four months, while Boey arrives faster and leaves sooner, by design. That short window is exactly what makes it useful for certain patients.

Who Boey Suits

A test drive, not a commitment.

There are many reasons someone might choose a short-acting neurotoxin. These are the patients Dr. Kuzel sees it suiting most often.

01

On the fence about Botox

Curious, but not ready to commit to three or four months with a result you have never seen. Boey lets you try it first.

02

Worried about looking natural

See how a softened frown line looks and feels on your own face, knowing the effect fades in weeks.

03

A big event coming up

A wedding, a graduation or a holiday party. A temporary softening for the occasion, then back to your usual self.

Existing Botox patients

Ask your injector whether Boey can fit around your current treatment plan. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only neurotoxin clinically studied for use after Boey.

FAQ

Is Boey for you? Your questions.

Still deciding between Boey and Botox? Your injector can help you choose at your consultation.

Who is a good candidate for Boey?

Adults with moderate to severe frown lines who want a short, low-commitment result: people curious about Botox who want to try it first, and people who want a temporary softening for an upcoming event.

Can I try Boey before committing to Botox?

Yes. Boey lasts about 2 to 3 weeks, so you can see how a softened frown line looks on you before committing to a three to four month Botox result. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only neurotoxin clinically studied for use after Boey.

Is Boey good for a wedding or special event?

It can be. Boey can start working in as little as 8 hours and fades in about 2 to 3 weeks, so the result is there for the occasion and then wears off. Tell your injector your event date so they can plan your appointment.

Will Boey look natural?

Boey softens frown lines rather than freezing the face, and because the effect lasts only a few weeks it is a low-stakes way to see how a treated frown line looks and moves on you.

How long does Boey last compared with Botox?

Boey lasts about 2 to 3 weeks. Botox typically lasts three to four months.

I already get Botox. Can I use Boey too?

Talk to your injector. They will look at your current treatment plan and timing and advise whether Boey fits. BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only neurotoxin clinically studied for use after Boey.

Is Boey available at Rejuvenation Dermatology?

Yes. Boey is available at Rejuvenation Dermatology, with clinics in Calgary, Okotoks, Edmonton, Vancouver and Oakville. Book a consultation at the clinic nearest you.

This article is for general education and is not medical advice. Boey® (trenibotulinumtoxinE) is a prescription medicine authorized by Health Canada for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) in adults. Onset, degree and duration of results vary between individuals. Suitability and dosing are determined at a personal consultation with a qualified provider.

Important safety information. Boey should not be used by anyone with an infection at the planned injection site or a known allergy to any botulinum toxin product. Adverse reactions reported in clinical trials included headache, injection-site pain and redness, and, uncommonly, eyelid or brow drooping. As with all botulinum toxin products, the effect can in rare cases spread away from the treated area and cause symptoms such as muscle weakness, drooping eyelids, double or blurred vision, or difficulty swallowing or breathing; seek medical attention immediately if any of these occur. One unit of Boey is not the same as one unit of any other botulinum toxin product. Boey®, Botox® and Botox Cosmetic® are trademarks of Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company.
