The Treatment

What is Ultraformer MPT?

A typical results timeline
Day 0Some patients notice early lifting and tightening right after treatment, as existing collagen contracts.
Weeks 4 to 12New collagen and elastin build. Studies of focused ultrasound typically measure improvement at about 12 weeks.
Up to 6 monthsResults continue to improve as the tissue remodels.
About 12 monthsWith good skin care and sun protection, results can last up to about a year. Maintenance sessions can extend them.

Timelines are based on manufacturer information and published research. Individual results vary.

Quick answer: Ultraformer MPT is a non-surgical lifting, tightening and contouring treatment that uses micro- and macro-focused ultrasound (often called HIFU) to heat precise points beneath the skin, from the upper dermis down to the SMAS, the deep support layer that is tightened in a surgical facelift. The heat prompts your body to contract existing collagen and build new collagen and elastin, so skin looks firmer and better defined over the following months.

Made by Classys, a South Korean aesthetics technology company, Ultraformer MPT is the newest platform in the Ultraformer family, which Classys reports has more than 19,000 devices installed worldwide. Focused ultrasound itself is one of the most studied non-surgical lifting technologies, and published research reports improvements in skin laxity and elasticity within about three months.

What sets the MPT version apart is Micro-Pulsed (MP) mode. Rather than placing one heat point at a time with a pause between each, MP mode lays down consecutive, densely packed points as the cartridge glides across the skin. The manufacturer reports this roughly doubles treatment speed and noticeably reduces discomfort. A separate Booster handpiece, used with the DSB ampoule, adds a skin quality treatment aimed at brightness and hydration.

It is a different tool from Sofwave™ and Ultherapy®, and often a complement to Botox® and dermal fillers. Our comparison below explains when each one makes sense.

The Science

How it works.

Ultrasound is sound energy. A cartridge focuses it to a tiny point beneath the skin, the way a magnifying glass focuses sunlight, so heat builds only where the energy converges and the skin surface is spared.

01

Focus

Each cartridge is built for a specific layer, so energy lands exactly where it is needed, from the skin itself to the deep support layer.

02

Heat

At the focal point, a precise pulse of warmth creates a tiny treatment zone, smaller than a grain of rice, while the surface of the skin stays untouched.

03

Tighten

The heat makes existing collagen fibres contract, which can give an early tightening effect, and it switches on the body’s repair response.

04

Rebuild

Over the following weeks and months, fibroblasts produce new collagen and elastin, and results keep improving for up to about six months.

Four cartridges, matched to every area

Surface

Fine detail

The most superficial layer, used for thin or delicate skin and fine lines such as those on the forehead.

Precision

Brow, eyes and mouth

Used around the brow, under the eyes, the mouth area and neck folds, where precision matters most.

Firming

Cheeks, jawline and neck

A deeper layer for firming the mid and lower face, smile lines and the neck.

Lifting

The support layer

The deepest layer, reaching the SMAS for lifting and contouring the lower face, jawline and chin.

Typical uses are shown for orientation only. Your provider chooses cartridges and settings for your anatomy.

Two modes, plus a skin quality add-on

Mode

Normal mode

Delivers heat points in a precise, evenly spaced pattern. Chosen for skin tightening and lifting, and best suited to mild to moderate laxity.

Mode

Micro-Pulsed (MP) mode

Delivers densely packed points in rapid succession as the cartridge moves. Chosen for contouring and deeper tightening, particularly where there is more volume or fat, and designed to make treatment faster and more comfortable.

Add-on

Booster + DSB ampoule

A small rotating handpiece for narrow, curved and delicate areas such as around the eyes and mouth. Used with the DSB (Deep Synergy Booster) ampoule, an active serum that replaces plain ultrasound gel and carries 57 ingredients including PDRN, glutathione, niacinamide, hyaluronic acids, peptides and centella asiatica, it targets brightness, hydration and skin quality.

Read more about how the DSB ampoule works below.

The Booster

The Deep Synergy Booster (DSB).

Most ultrasound treatments glide over a plain, inert gel that gets wiped off at the end. Ultraformer MPT’s Ultra-Booster handpiece runs on something different: DSB, an active serum ampoule that conducts the ultrasound energy, travels deeper into the skin because of it, and stays on afterward as a recovery mask.

01

Deeper delivery

Ultrasound energy and gentle surface warmth briefly increase the skin’s permeability, so the serum passes further into the dermis than it could on its own.

02

Two results at once

While focused ultrasound works in the deep dermis and SMAS to lift and tighten, the serum’s micro-capsules open to hydrate, brighten and support the skin barrier.

03

Nothing to wipe off

Standard gel is scraped away after treatment. DSB is massaged in and fully absorbed, so it keeps working as an intensive post-treatment recovery mask.

What is in it

DSB uses a patented Membrane Emulsification Technology (MET) capsule process that suspends 57 active ingredients evenly through the serum. The ones that matter most:

Repair

PDRN (salmon DNA)

Supports cellular repair, tissue regeneration and skin elasticity.

Brighten

Glutathione and niacinamide

Antioxidant defence with a visible brightening effect.

Calm

Centella asiatica

Helps reduce redness and provides anti-inflammatory support.

Hydrate

7 hyaluronic acids and 10 peptides

Intense hydration now, and a nudge toward long-term collagen remodelling.

Why Patients Choose It

Why people are choosing it.

Ultraformer MPT sits in a useful middle ground: more lifting power than skin care and light-based treatments, with none of the incisions or recovery of surgery.

01

Lift without surgery

It reaches the deep support layer (the SMAS) that surgeons tighten in a facelift, with no incisions, no needles and no anesthetic. It will not replace surgery for significant laxity, but it can be a meaningful option for the right patient.

02

Precision at multiple depths

Four cartridges let your provider layer energy from the upper dermis to the SMAS in one visit, tailored to thin eyelid skin, a heavier jawline or a lax neck.

03

Faster and more comfortable

Micro-Pulsed mode places densely packed heat points as the cartridge glides. The manufacturer reports it roughly doubles treatment speed and noticeably reduces discomfort compared with conventional HIFU.

04

Little to no downtime

Most people return to normal activities right away. Mild, temporary redness or swelling is common and usually settles within hours to a couple of days.

05

Designed for many skin tones

Energy is delivered beneath the surface and does not depend on skin pigment, so the device is designed for use across skin types. Your provider assesses your skin and adjusts settings with safety first.

06

Natural, gradual results

Results come from your own collagen, so improvement builds over weeks and months rather than overnight, and it pairs well with injectables, skin boosters and other treatments we offer.

What It Treats

The concerns it was built for.

Ultraformer MPT is best suited to mild to moderate laxity and the early signs of aging, on the face, neck and chest. Here is what we use it for.

01

Sagging cheeks and jowls

Lifts and firms the mid and lower face where skin and soft tissue have started to descend. Related: skin laxity.

02

A softening jawline

Helps redefine the line from chin to ear when contour has blurred. See also facial and jawline slimming.

03

Early double chin

Tightens skin and soft tissue beneath the chin. For more stubborn fat, Belkyra® may be the better fit, and we will tell you which.

04

Neck laxity and lines

Firms loose neck skin and softens horizontal neck folds, an area that is hard to improve with skin care alone.

05

A heavy or drooping brow

Can gently lift the brow for a more open, rested look, without a surgical brow lift.

06

Fine lines and crepey skin

Lines on the forehead, under the eyes and around the mouth can soften as new collagen forms. See fine lines and wrinkles.

07

Smile lines

Nasolabial folds can look softer as the surrounding tissue firms. For deeper folds we may pair it with filler.

08

Laxity after weight change

Skin that has lost firmness after weight loss, including the lax, hollow look often called Ozempic face.

09

Skin quality and glow

With the Booster handpiece and DSB ampoule, treatment can also target brightness, hydration and fine texture. See also skin boosters.

Choosing Your Treatment

Ultraformer MPT vs other tightening options.

There is no single best skin-tightening device. The right choice depends on your anatomy, how much laxity you have and how much downtime suits your life. Here is how Ultraformer MPT compares with the two ultrasound treatments it is most often weighed against.

Focused ultrasound builds firmness. Other treatments soften expression lines, restore volume or refine texture, so many patients combine them in a plan built around their goals.

Your Visit

What to expect.

A first visit combines your consultation with treatment planning. Here is how a typical Ultraformer MPT appointment unfolds.

01

Consultation and mapping

Your provider reviews your medical history and goals, takes before photos and marks your treatment zones. Tell us about implants, metal, fillers or any electronic medical device.

02

Preparation and test spot

Skin is cleansed and a generous layer of ultrasound gel is applied. A small test spot checks your comfort and response before full treatment.

03

Treatment

Cartridges are used in sequence from the deepest layer to the most superficial. Most patients feel warmth or tingling, and energy can be adjusted at any point. A full face and neck treatment using every cartridge for both contouring and tightening takes about 30 to 45 minutes; a single area on younger skin can be as quick as 20.

04

Afterward

You go straight back to your day. Mild redness or swelling can occur and usually settles within hours to a couple of days, while collagen remodeling continues for months.

Before your treatment

  • Avoid sun exposure for 2 weeks beforehand.
  • Skip retinoids, AHAs and BHAs for 3 days beforehand.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours beforehand.
  • Arrive with clean skin, free of makeup and topical products.
  • Tell us about any Botox or filler in the last 4 weeks, and any new medications.

After your treatment

  • Use a gentle cleanser and a hydrating moisturizer.
  • Apply SPF 50 daily, and avoid tanning beds and direct sun while skin heals.
  • Skip retinoids, AHAs, BHAs and exfoliants for 5 to 7 days.
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours.
  • Avoid intense exercise, hot baths and massaging the area for 5 to 7 days.

These are general guidelines. Your provider will give you personalized instructions at your appointment.

Candidacy

Is Ultraformer MPT right for you?

Many healthy adults with mild to moderate laxity are candidates. Your consultation confirms the plan, and we will always tell you if another option would serve you better.

Often a good fit

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity on the face or neck
  • Early jowls or a softening jawline
  • Fine lines or crepey skin you would like to firm
  • Skin that has lost firmness after weight change
  • A preference for a non-surgical option with little downtime
  • Realistic expectations: gradual, natural improvement rather than a surgical result

May not be suitable

  • A pacemaker or other implanted electronic device
  • Permanent filler, facial implants or metal in the treatment area
  • Active skin disease, infection or open wounds in the area
  • Cancer or malignant disease
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Certain medical conditions, including diabetes, epilepsy, bleeding disorders or heart conditions
  • Anyone under 18
An honest note: if you have significant loose skin, heavy neck banding or deep volume loss, focused ultrasound alone will not deliver a surgical result. We will tell you when a different option, such as filler, Sculptra® or plastic surgery, is the better route.

Questions

Frequently asked questions about Ultraformer MPT.

What is Ultraformer MPT?

Ultraformer MPT is a non-surgical lifting, tightening and contouring treatment that uses micro- and macro-focused ultrasound (often called HIFU) to heat precise points beneath the skin, from the upper dermis to the SMAS layer. The heat makes existing collagen contract and prompts your body to build new collagen and elastin, so skin looks firmer and better defined over the following months.

How does Ultraformer MPT work?

A cartridge placed on the skin focuses ultrasound energy to a tiny point in one of four layers, from the upper skin to the deep support layer. At that point, a precise pulse of warmth creates a small treatment zone while the skin surface is spared. Collagen contracts right away, and the healing response then builds new collagen and elastin over weeks to months.

What is the DSB ampoule used with Ultraformer MPT?

DSB (Deep Synergy Booster) is an active serum ampoule made for the Ultraformer MPT Ultra-Booster handpiece. It replaces the plain, inert gel normally used to conduct ultrasound. During treatment, the ultrasound energy and gentle surface warmth briefly increase the skin’s permeability, so the serum’s 57 active ingredients, including PDRN, glutathione, niacinamide, centella asiatica, seven hyaluronic acids and ten peptides, reach deeper into the dermis than a topical could on its own. Nothing is wiped off afterward: the serum is massaged in and absorbed, acting as a recovery mask. Providers typically suggest 2 to 3 Booster sessions spaced 4 to 8 weeks apart, then maintenance about three times a year.

Does Ultraformer MPT hurt?

Most patients describe warmth, tingling or brief pulses of heat rather than sharp pain. Areas close to bone, such as around the eyes and along the jawline, tend to feel more intense. Your provider tests a small spot first and can adjust the energy or choose a different cartridge if needed. According to the manufacturer, Micro-Pulsed mode was designed to make treatment more comfortable than conventional HIFU. Comfort varies from person to person.

How long does a treatment take?

It depends on the areas treated and how much of the face and neck we are working on. A full face and neck treatment that uses every cartridge for both contouring and tightening takes about 30 to 45 minutes. Add the consultation, photos, mapping and gel application and plan on about an hour at the clinic. A single area on younger skin, such as the jawline alone, can take closer to 20 minutes.

When will I see results?

Some patients notice early lifting and tightening right after treatment as existing collagen contracts. The larger change comes as new collagen and elastin build, and results continue to improve for up to about six months.

How long do results last?

With good skin care and sun protection, results can last up to about 12 months. Aging continues, so many patients choose periodic maintenance sessions as recommended by their provider. Individual results vary.

How many treatments will I need?

It varies from person to person. Your provider will build a plan around your goals, your anatomy and your degree of laxity, and may suggest periodic maintenance to extend your results.

Is there downtime, and what are the side effects?

Most people return to normal activities right away. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness or tingling are common and usually settle within hours to a couple of days. Less commonly, bruising or temporary numbness can occur. Rarely, burns, blistering or nerve irritation have been reported with focused ultrasound, which is why treatment is planned carefully around nerves, bone and other no-treatment zones by trained providers.

Who is a good candidate?

People with mild to moderate skin laxity, early jowls, a softening jawline, loose skin or lines on the neck, or skin that has lost firmness after weight change, who want a non-surgical option with little downtime. It can be used preventatively or correctively across a wide age range. Your consultation confirms whether it is the right tool for you.

Who should not have Ultraformer MPT?

Treatment is not suitable if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, permanent filler, facial implants or metal in the treatment area, active skin disease, infection or open wounds in the area, cancer or malignant disease, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Certain medical conditions, including diabetes, epilepsy, bleeding disorders and heart conditions, need careful review. It is not used on children. Tell your provider about all conditions, medications and recent injectables.

Is Ultraformer MPT safe for darker skin tones?

Because focused ultrasound works beneath the surface and does not depend on skin pigment, it is designed for use across skin types. Your provider will assess your skin type and personalize your settings, and if there is any doubt we take the more cautious approach.

What is the difference between Ultraformer MPT and Ultraformer III?

Ultraformer MPT is the newer platform in the Ultraformer family. It adds Micro-Pulsed mode, which the manufacturer reports delivers treatment faster and more comfortably, and it introduces the Booster handpiece and DSB ampoule for skin quality. Many published studies were done on the earlier Ultraformer III, which uses the same core approach of focused ultrasound at set depths.

How does Ultraformer MPT compare with Ultherapy?

Both use focused ultrasound to lift and tighten skin, but they are different devices from different manufacturers. Ultherapy uses ultrasound imaging to visualize tissue layers during treatment. Ultraformer MPT uses depth-specific cartridges and a marked treatment template, with settings chosen by your provider, and offers Micro-Pulsed mode for faster treatment. Both can be effective for mild to moderate laxity, and the best option depends on your anatomy and goals.

How does Ultraformer MPT compare with Sofwave?

Both are ultrasound-based, needle-free options with little downtime. Sofwave is designed to deliver ultrasound to a single mid-dermal depth, while Ultraformer MPT treats four layers from the upper dermis to the SMAS, plus a Micro-Pulsed mode for contouring. Your provider can explain which suits your concerns, or whether a combination makes sense.

Can I combine Ultraformer MPT with Botox, fillers or other treatments?

Yes. Focused ultrasound builds firmness, while neuromodulators soften expression lines and fillers restore lost volume, so they are often planned together. If you have had Botox or filler in the last four weeks, tell your provider, because timing and sequencing may need to be adjusted. See Botox, dermal fillers and SKINVIVE.
