Dr. Maninder Longowal was raised in Edmonton, Alberta where he graduated with honours with a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree with specialization in biological sciences at the University of Alberta. He then moved to Calgary to complete an accelerated 3 year Doctor of Medicine at the University of Calgary. This was followed by 5 years of specialty training in Dermatology at the University of Calgary to obtain his designation as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

Dr. Longowal has been involved with research and medical education since medical school, where he created over 20 entries in the Calgary Guide to Understanding Disease, a non-profit open-access website designed to help medical students across the world. In addition to having published journal articles in national and international journals, he has had his research presented at various dermatology conferences. He is also interested in clinical trials, having completed the Leadership in Patient-Oriented Research: Pragmatic Clinical Trials certificate in his final year of training.

Dr. Longowal was active in teaching medical students each year during his residency training, both with didactic teaching at the University of Calgary and clinical teaching. He also helped teach at the first national online bootcamp for dermatology residents across Canada.

His main interests include medical, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. In particular, he is passionate about skin cancer surveillance and surgery, acne, and psoriasis. Outside of medicine, he enjoys weightlifting, sports, and spending time with his family and friends.
